The SJC Rotary Plants Trees at the Arley Leck House
On Saturday, March 7 we assembled at the San Juan Capistrano Historical Society to plant trees at the Arley Leck House as part of the celebration of our country’s 250 Anniversary and the 250th Anniversary of the San Juan Capistrano Mission. Much is being done to celebrate. Some will fade away but these trees will be here for a long time as a reminder of the event. Two Catalina Island cherry trees and five toyon trees were planted by members of the Boys and Girls Club and the Rotary Club of San Juan Capistrano. The trees were purchased by the Rotary Club of San Juan Capistrano.
The SJC Rotary Supports the Anza Color Guard for Swallows Day Parade
The Anza Color Guard is being brought to San Juan Capistrano to give a presentation to the Boys and Girls Club, to march in the Swallow Day Parade and to give a talk to the residents of San Juan Capistrano. Stella Cardoza arranged for their participation which is being paid for by the San Juan Capistrano 250 Committee, the Rotary Club of San Juan Capistrano and the San Juan Capistrano Fiesta Association.
The Anza Color Guard represents an overland 1,200 mile trek of 300 people and 1,000 head of cattle in 1775 from San Jose de Pimas in Mexico to San Francisco, California led by Juan Batista de Anza. They were a culturally diverse mixture of 30 families of American Indian, European and Afro-Latino ancestry.
Rotary is paying $350 for each of their 6 horses ($2,100). The Fiesta Association is paying for 5 horses. There will be 11 horses in the Anza Honor Guard entry in the parade.
The SJC Rotary Provides Breakfast for the Anza Color Guard
Rotarians are also paying for the Anza Color Guard at the Rotary Pancake breakfast. Estimated 20 of them at $10 per breakfast.
