The Adobes of San Juan Capistrano: People Who Lived in Them

Members of the San Juan Capistrano Docent Society

Date and Time

Sunday, May 17, 2026
1:30PM-3:00PM

Topic

Step back in time with the San Juan Capistrano Docent Society as they bring to life the stories of the city’s historic adobes. Built beginning in 1794 and spanning multiple eras, these remarkable structures are more than just walls of earth and timber—they are homes that carry the memories of the people who lived within them. Each adobe bears the name of its past inhabitants, connecting us to the diverse individuals and families who shaped San Juan Capistrano’s history.

San Juan Capistrano has more preserved adobes than any other city or town in California. This lecture will explore what makes these buildings unique, why they endure, and how they continue to tell the story of a community across centuries.
